Each beneficiary household will receive Sh2,000, marking another step in the government’s efforts to support vulnerable families and improve child welfare outcomes.

The government has disbursed a total of Sh860.4 million to more than 430,000 households under the Inua Jamii Cash Transfer for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (CT-OVC) Programme, with payments set to commence on today, March 31,2026.

Each beneficiary household will receive Sh2,000, marking another step in the government’s efforts to support vulnerable families and improve child welfare outcomes.

In a press statement issued on Monday, Principal Secretary, State Department for Children Services Carren Ageng'o said the programme is designed to “encourage fostering and retention of orphans and vulnerable children within their families and communities, while promoting their human capital development.”

She added that the initiative directly targets increased enrolment and transition in education, improved health and nutrition outcomes, enhanced household food security, and better child protection.

The CT-OVC programme, implemented through the State Department for Children Services, forms part of the broader Inua Jamii social protection framework, which aims to alleviate poverty and improve the welfare of Kenya’s most vulnerable populations.

The government has partnered with a contracted Payment Service Provider to ensure the disbursement process is efficient and reaches the intended beneficiaries promptly.

“Through these payments, we are not only providing immediate financial relief to vulnerable households but also creating an enabling environment for children to thrive in their families and communities,” Ageng’o said.

Since its inception, the CT-OVC programme has been a cornerstone of Kenya’s social protection agenda, supporting hundreds of thousands of children nationwide.

By offering regular financial support, the government hopes to strengthen the safety net for orphans and vulnerable children, ensuring that they can access education, healthcare, and nutritious meals, while fostering community-based child protection mechanisms.

The March 2026 payment cycle represents a continued commitment by the government to uplift vulnerable families and safeguard the rights and well-being of Kenya’s children.
